Prophets 4

With an intense sun on the desert, the sand with brushstrokes of blinding light.
The prophets grow in the middle of nowhere.
Surrounded only by thorns and an illusion of flowers.
With firm verb of words as rough as rocks they protect their flowers.
Even if they do not see them, even if they do not touch them, they declare themselves ready to protect them with their own lives.
Prophets guardians of unseen promises, they stand motionless before the desolate immensity.

The figure of desert preachers, stripped of any material goods, insist on protecting flower-dogmas even though the ones they protect are non-existent. They cry out the need for meaning and purpose, a search for beauty and transcendence in hostile surroundings. Their behaviour is a manifestation of sublimation: the channelling of frustrated energies and desires into symbolic activity. The absence of flower-ideas turns their creed into a canvas on which to project ideals, yearnings for creation and care. The desert is not only physical scenery, it is a reflection of the inner emptiness that the prophets seek to fill. Blind faith, unwavering conviction in the existence of the invisible, a metaphor for faith, an energy capable of sustaining hope and purpose in the midst of adversity.
The prophets invite us to question the nature of perceptible reality, including the dimension of the intangible, of the spiritual beyond the material.
The defences of these flowers of invisible ideas as a stylistic twist on the moral responsibility to protect the values and beliefs that give meaning to life, even when these seem ethereal and unattainable.
They say that in the darkness of the desert, faith is the only flower that grows,
The contrast between the scorching light of the desert and the darkness of night as an internal struggle between reason and faith, between tangible reality and spiritual reality.
Hope and the search for beauty may be the only flowers capable of growing in the desert of existence despite its hurtful defences.
